Final Double Page Spread

For my double page spread creation there were also many different steps throughout the process. Before i could get the desired affect i had to play around with different designs and layouts. It was also important that i focused on looking at the codes and conventions of existing magazines in orser for me to create something that was proffessional and realistic.

This was the design for my final double page spread. Too finish it off i just added the text down the right hand side. I used just the simple Arial font for this text. I did this because it is an easy font to read and this way the audience will get more engaged because its easy for their eyes to take. Although i didnt quite follow the codes and conventions fully because usually it isnt just one long block of text but it is broken down into smaller sections perhaps with pictures slotted in between. But i chose to do it in a different way because i felt that the way in which the page had been put together putting the text in this format fits in and suits it best. It also is one continuous flow for the reader and once they get into what they are reading they will carry on until the end.

The third step of my creation was to layer another picture on top of the main one on the right of the page. I did this because i felt that it fitted in well with the other picture. The way in which it makes her look as though she is leaning against the wall gives a good edge to the page and this is the intended effect that i want to be created on my magazine. Once again the use of colours and fonts is used throughout giving it that flow throughout.

For the next step of my double page spread i continued using the same capture it font that i had used on the previous two creations. This then keeps it consitant and effective making it appear more realistic. I then added the same black and white image that i had used on the front cover onto the bottom right hand corner. This is challenging the codes and conventions slightly as usually magazines would use different images throughout the magazine and not repeat any. I felt that repeating this image was appropriate though due to the way in which it stands out on the black background and the way she is staring out at her audience. It makes the audience want to get more involved and engaged in the story that has to be told.

This was the beginnings of the creation of my double page spread. I chose to put a single image of Evie on the right hand side. This is because when i was analysing existing double page spreads when i came across NME this was a layout that they had a used on numerous occasions. I edited the image before then putting it onto my double page spread. By keeping the layout simple and similar to existing magazines i felt that it gave more of a proffessional and desired affect.

Final Contents Page

This was the creation that i have made for my final contents page. For my contents page i followed the general codes and conventions of a magazine layout. I only used a couple of images as can be seen below and alot more text. Quite obviously a contents page is going to contain more text due to the fact that it is telling you what can be found throughout every page of the magazine. I used the same choice of font also on the contents page this was called capture it and was found on photshop. I used the same font because this is what usually happens in a magazine it gives it a more proffessional look as it means that the reader is getting consistency throughout what they read. It also makes the magazine look more ordered and like the people producing it actually know what they are doing. Another thing that i have kept the same and generally its a convention to keep the same are the colours that are used. The magazine usually uses three main colours throughout this also makes it look more proffessional and consistant. It tends to keep the reader more engaged and a better flow throughout the magazine.

Final Front Cover

The process of creating my front cover took quite along time. In order for me to create the desired affect that i wanted i had to spend time trying out different creative techniques and also making sure that what i created followed the codes and conventions of exsisting magazines of similar genres. So below i have the final front cover that i have created using photoshop as the design package for putting everything together on.
For the final part of the creation i added a barcode to the front cover to give it that overall feel of actually being a product that can be bought. Along with the barcode i added a price at 2.99 which i felt was a reasonable price and was similar to many other magazines that are of similar style. I also added more text on the right hand side to give it more of magazine and the general codes and conventions of other magazines such as NME show that they use a fair amount of text to give information about featured articles to the reader.

The fourth part of my creation was adding more writing down the right hand side of the magazine. By doing this it tells the reader what is featured inside my magazine it also follows the typical codes and conventions of a magazine therefore hopefully making it more appealing for a reader to buy. It breaks away from the idea that there are quite a few images on the page and gives the reader abit more detail and information rather than keeping it to vague and simple with just the images.

This third step of my magazine was where i added a third image to the front and also began putting text down the right hand side. From when i analysed other magazine front covers such as NME i noticed that a typical convention was to have the text either down the right hand side or the left rather than having it randomly placed anywhere so this is why i chose to put it down the right hand side. Also by layering a third image on top i thought it brought away the attention from the fact i had two of the same person on the front. It also breaks up the main image as it makes it seem less vast and gives the reader something else to draw their attention too. By using black and white it makes it stand out more on the coloured photo underneath and even out the way in which i have two coloured images and two black and white rather than everything looking too much the same. This was then the next step for my magazine. I chose to add a couple of pictures as following a magazines general codes and conventions they have a couple of smaller images on the front of the magazine aswell as the one large one which takes up the main part of the front cover. The smaller images are layered on top and mine are people that are featured inside the magazine. Although i decided to challenge the codes and conventions slightly because i chose to put a picture of Evie to the left hand side as well as just having the main image. I chose to do this to add emphasis on the fact that she will be the main feature in the magazine hopefully attracting the audience towards buying it.
This was step one of putting together my magazine. For this i chose to use a single image of Evie from Evie and the apples this was because of the way in which the article for my double page spread was going to be about just her and the way she was leaving the group. So i felt to fit in with the codes and conventions that i should i should use this image as it shows how she is on her own and looking at the audience of the magazine with a blank and simple expression.
The font that i chose to use throughout my magazine was found on photoshop its called Capture it. I chose to use this font because i felt that it fits in with the theme i wanted something that looked edgy and indie style. The masthead of the magazine was put in the top right hand corner because this follows general codes and conventions of a magazine as the majority of mastheads are situated in this position.
